Economies of scale, not free markets make US a success
The most successful US companies owe most of their strength to economies of scale. Investment banks, motion picture companies, once upon a time even motor manufacturers all owe their relative strength to access to a huge single market. People always ignore that when they talk about the EU and economists are routinely told that they might assume that all developed economies are big enough that there are no increasing returns to scale.
