A Nuclear North Korea Is a Gift to Investors says Andy Mukherjee of Bloomberg News. I’m all for rational, significance based reporting and agenda setting and contrarianism can be charming.

1. A nuclear North Korea means no Germany style reunification costs for the foreseeable
2. Charles Wolf Jr. of the Rand Corporation thinks that the maximum tolerable inequality between Northeners and Southerners would be reached when Northerners have an average income 60% that of Southerners compared with a single digit fraction now.
3. Mukherjee assumes that the announcement carries little information about actual levels of threat. In so doing he is being narrow in his assessment of what makes a difference and assuming that perception before the test was accurate.  Maybe going public signals something.
